How it works
Bitter Melon (Momordicun® Momordica charantia)
In addition to being a food ingredient, bitter melon has also long been used as a herbal remedy for a range of ailments, including regulating blood sugar levels.
The fruit contains at least three active substances with anti-diabetic properties, including charantin, which has been confirmed to have a blood glucose lowering effect, vicine and an insulin-like compound known as polypeptide-p.
These substances either work individually or together to help reduce blood sugar levels.
It is also known that bitter melon contains a lectin that reduces blood glucose concentrations by acting on peripheral tissues and suppressing appetite - similar to the effects of insulin in the brain.
Gymnema (GS4 PLUS® Gynmnema sylvestre)
Gymnema has played an important role in traditional Ayurvedic medicine for centuries. Its use has been confined primarily to the management of diabetes and similar conditions of altered blood sugar – known as the ‘sugar destroyer’.
Amla (Saberry® Embilica officinalis)
The health benefits of Indian Gooseberry, also known as Amla, can be partially attributed to its high Vitamin C content.
Amla is also a source of chromium and stimulated the isolated group of cells that secrete the hormone insulin. By lowering bloods sugar and regulating insulin levels, the glucose can be used by the cells as functional energy. This causes the metabolism to be stronger and you will have more energy without the plunges and spikes in blood sugar.

Silbinol® (Pterocarpus marsupium)

Controlling cholesterol levels
Do not use GlycaemiCare if you are on anti-coagulant medication like warfarin.
If type 1 Diabetic, do not use without the strict supervision of your medical professional. For type 2 diabetes, the mushrooms and botanical extracts will lower blood glucose, so medication needs to be adjusted and supervision of medical practitioner is needed.
Gymnema and Bitter Melon can enhance the blood glucose lowering effects of insulin; blood glucose levels should be monitored closely.
Shiitake Adverse Reactions
- May cause temporary diarrhoea and abdominal bloating in high dosages.
- Allergic reactions are rare, but when they occur, they produce a characteristic whorl, similar to hives (‘shiitake dermatitis), on skin exposed to sunlight.
- People with bladder cancer should not use raw shiitake.
Cordyceps Adverse Reactions
- Do not use if on anticoagulant drugs, asthma inhalers, or immunosuppressant drugs for lupus, myasthenia gravis, psoriasis and rheumatoid arthritis. (Cordyceps stimulates the immune system).
- Avoid using cordyceps for hormone-sensitive disorders such as breast cancer or prostate cancer.
- Cordyceps are for the use of adults only.
Reishi Adverse Reactions:
- Adverse reactions are extremely rare, but using Reishi for three to six months continuous my result in dryness of the mouth, throat and nasal passages; stomach upset; or nosebleed. These complications appear so seldom that their exact causes are not known.
- If taking blood-thinning medications such as warfarin, use Reishi only under a doctor’s supervision.
- Reishi might have hypotensive activity, so avoid using with antihypertensive medication.
Maitake Adverse Reactions
- Maitake might lower blood glucose levels and might have an additive effect when used with other supplements / medication that also lower blood sugar levels. Monitor blood glucose levels closely.
